David Hanes (b. 1987, Canada/USA) is an artist based between London and Berlin. His work begins with observational sketches made outdoors, which transform through memory and time into oil paintings or watercolours. Colour drives the work, resisting muted nostalgia. Shelters, horizons, forests, and skies repeat as spaces to inhabit and return to. Made slowly by hand over weeks of layering, his paintings are dwelling-places that whisper: you're not alone, and everything might still be OK.
